Video Transcription Below:

For the past few months, I have been providing a Q&A episode every other week, answering three top questions the team and I have been asked recently.

From now on, I am going to change things up a little. I am going to answer just one question in every single video which will allow me to go a little bit deeper into that topic and potentially give you more action steps.

Today I am going to answer the question which I believe will help a huge number of people who are struggling with weight loss at the moment.

“I am putting a lot of pressure on myself and I’m becoming stressed, anxious and overwhelmed about it and I am not actually making any progress towards losing weight. What do you recommend?”

Here’s my answer:

I think three quarters of people who are battling with weight loss can probably relate to this question and putting pressure on themselves. So it’s important that this question gets answered so that weight loss actually becomes enjoyable and fun rather than frustrating and overwhelming.

I believe that if you can get to that point of enjoying a healthy lifestyle, the whole process becomes a lot easier and improves your chances of actually losing weight.

What Are You Feeling?

When we are talking about weight loss, the goal is actually to search for a feeling. It’s not just about losing weight full stop. I talk about this in my blog here, but I want to go deeper in this Q&A.

Ask pretty much anyone and they will say they want to feel better as a result of losing weight. But why?

  • You want to feel more confident in yourself?
  • You want to get into the dress or the suit that you love?
  • You want to feel like people are not looking down at you in the street any more?

Is that really the goal?

It’s important that you get clear on that feeling that you are searching for. What feeling do you see yourself having in the future, when you’ve reached your ideal weight/size?

Many people who are battling with their weight actually allow these feelings to dictate how they feel on a daily basis. They are not content because they haven’t yet reached the feeling that they think they’ll feel when they ‘look great’.

You might feel a bit sad, low, self-conscious, lacking self confidence, low self esteem, even depressed about your body shape and your physical appearance.

You know where you are trying to go and you think you will feel so much better when you get there, which you might well do but it is crazy to hold your happiness hostage until you have got to that point. All that has really changed when you get to that point is your physical appearance but fundamentally inside you hasn’t changed.

All that has really happened is that you have lost the weight, but because you are searching for that feeling that you think you cannot have until you have lost the weight, that is what is causing the pressure and the frustration.

You might say something to yourself like “I just need to lose weight so that I can feel better”.

How much pressure does that put on yourself?!

This pressure is just going cause anxiety and overwhelm. You will not be able to follow through with eating well and following your exercise plan because there is just too much pressure on you.

So my question to you is, what’s stopping you feeling better about yourself now?

I 100% agree that people should strive to achieve a healthy body weight and shape primarily for health reasons, to feel better energy- and movement-wise, to reduce injuries and aches and pains, to live longer and of course to reduce the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.

Feeling better about yourself now all begins with self-acceptance and self-love, just being happy with who you are right now rather than having to get to that place, that destination.

I truly believe having worked with clients here at the studio and speaking to my team that we have helped people to do this, who are battling with depression around their body shape. Once that feeling is gone it really does pave a much smoother path for you towards weight loss.

It all starts with self-acceptance and just being happy with who you are now and understanding that how you feel isn’t up to anyone else. It is up to you.

I would like to see you living a happier, more joyous and fulfilling life rather than going about feeling down because of your body shape and chasing a feeling that may be really difficult to achieve as long as you are feeling that way.

Take the pressure off yourself.
